In 2011, DEF in partnership with the ISOC extending the success of the Chanderi in three new locations of the country by establishing the wireless network. These three locations are Baran and Tilonia in Rajasthan and Tura in North Tripura. The project also aimed to introduce the wireless for connectivity (W4C) programme in South Asian countries through ToT programme. The motivation of this project is to address network connectivity and access deficits enabling reduction of information and digital divide.
Impact
- Introduced of W4C programme in two South Asia countries through Training of Trainer programmes
- Set up three wireless communities at three locations with deployment of wireless mesh network
- Connected 10 CIRCs of Baan with Internet connectivity
- Deployed 35 point-to-point nodes for a relay station that covering 10-35 kms
- Reduced information darkness and digital divide through access to network and connectivity
- Addressed the issues of content, skill and services gap
