TRAINING REPORTS – Wireless for Communities

To capacitate local community members, Wireless for Communities strengthens grassroots expertise by training community members in basic wireless technology, enabling these trained individuals — whom we call ‘Barefoot Engineers’ — not only to run and manage these networks but to also impart their skills to others in a sort of multiplier effect. These wireless network trainings take place at the W4C regional centre in Guna, Madhya Pradesh.

In the last few years, more than 30 Barefoot Engineers have received training at this centre, which has also organised various certificate courses for interested candidates. Besides this, the W4C regional centre has provided training in managing and operating wireless networks to over 150 local youth in remote locations of India. These individuals are now stationed across the country to ensure smooth and seamless access to connectivity for rural and marginalised communities of India.
