The ‘Barefoot Wireless Engineers’ course has been developed as part of the collaborative advanced ICT course development project of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). The course is designed in two modules
- Planning of the wireless network
- Setting up the wireless network
The first part of the module covers the topic like how to plan the network; network feasibility and understanding the location, collection of GPS coordinates and equipment details. Whereas the second module describes more about the pre-installation work, installation of access point, secondary infrastructure, power backup and troubleshooting and maintenance of the network.
This self-learning course is designed in format of videos, local stories and self-learning mechanism available in both offline and online version (both on web and mobile) using open-source learning management system (LMS), known as ‘Moodle’. The course is available in http://lms.defindia.org
This course is intended to be used and shared freely by trainers working in development and civil society organizations such as telecentres, community media organizations and NGOs.
